Obituary of Mildred Marie MacFarlane
Mildred MacFarlane, B.A.
Peacefully passed away, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Chartwell Elmira LTC, at the age of 86.
Beloved wife of Robert “Bob” MacFarlane for 57 years. Loving mother of Kent (Kelly) and Scott (Fiona); and adoring grandma to Sarah and Melanie; Graeme and Iain.
Predeceased by her parents Michael and Wilma (Koenig) Fuerst, and two brothers in infancy.
Mildred overcame many health challenges in her youth with a determination and spirit which followed her throughout her life. She started her career as a teacher at Riverside Public School and then at John Mahood. While raising her family with Bob, Mildred continued her own education through correspondence, achieving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilfrid Laurier in 1991. She and her family loved spending time together at the cottage on Lake Rosalind. Mildred enjoyed knitting and other crafts, and also travelled extensively. She loved to sing, proudly participating several times in mass choir productions of Handel’s Messiah at the Centre in the Square. She was also a member of Chord Spinners and her church choir. She was a member of the United Church Women in Elmira, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was always ready to lend a hand and be a friend to others. Above all, Mildred was devoted to her family, especially to her grandchildren who gave her so much joy in her later years. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira.
