Glad to have know Rick. We both started volunteering at Oasis about the same time and Rick would join me and a group of others from Oasis to sing & visit with Sunnyside Residents every other Saturday. I also remember his gentle fun loving nature from an Oasis camping trip to Algonquin Park around '97 or '98. Thank you Rick.

Hello,
I met Rick back in the early 90s, We would spend time playing video games and talk about comparing video game systems, We volunteerd at Oasis, playing chess, ping pong and attending bible study each day.
In 2000 Rick came to my wedding,
Rick was a soft spoken kind guy who really was inquisitive about a lot of hobbies and life in general.
I will miss his presence on the earth, but the truth is We re Born again believers in Christ.
Jesus is Lord!

Rick and I would chat for half and hour or so during our shift changes on Wednesdays at Ray of Hope. I also knew Ellen and knew how very proud she was of the man Rick had become. He was always helpful and encouraging and had a devilish side to him. He liked to tease me a bit.
When I heard about Richards health I began to pray. On July 1, 2020 in my regular morning devotions I read Luke 16: 19 - 31. That might be just a coincidence, but God often comforts me through His word. On July 1, 2020 I truly believe God was telling me that Rick was resting in eternal glory with all the other beloved saints.
May God bless you and keep you,
John

Richard always stopped by in the kitchen to chat with me as the dishwasher while he was conducting orientation of new volunteers. His smile and gentle mannerisms were quite evident and will not be forgotten by many.

Rick always had a kind word, funny thought or interesting news tidbit to share, whenever and wherever you met him. I appreciated his willingness to learn new skills and try new things in order to be a more effective volunteer at the Ray of Hope Community Center. He was the volunteer who had been here the longest and had more stories of the past than anyone else. I miss him already, and regret that I didn't write down more of the things he had to share. I thank God for him, his life, his compassion and his ministry to the street. He will be missed. He will be remembered. Good-bye for now Richard. We will meet again.

I am so touched by all the beautiful memories that everyone has written. It will be a year on October 24th since we lost Richards birth Mother ( my sister Gaye Ellen) It has been a terrible time losing them both within a few short months. I do hope they are chasing butterflies together.

We are proud of the kind, caring, generous man you
grew up to be Richard. Your death came far too soon, as we were just getting to know each other better again over the past 8 months.
Richard’s many hours volunteering at both Oasis & Ray of Hope for 24 years showed his compassion & giving nature. We will feel this loss for a very long time, as will his dear family & friends & those he served.
Rest In Peace.
Love,
Aunt Cathy & Hans

Richard was always welcoming. I remember having many great conversations with him at Ray of Hope. He had helped me a few times by just listening to struggles I had. He also helped me open my views to be more caring to those around me. For this I will be forever grateful.
Richard, you will be missed

Richard was a bright light in dark times. He loved his friends, family (both maternal and adopted) He got to know his Mother Gaye Ellen Doerr and that made him happy. I got to know a little about him.He had a love for cartoons, games, movies and other things. Richard had no room in his heart for hate. He will be greatly missed and it's sad to know that his light has gone but his heart wil remain within us all who knew him.

Richard’s dedication, compassion, sense of humour & giving way of life will not soon be forgotten by those he served in humility at Ray of Hope for over 23 years. He made lifelong friends among the many volunteers & staff.
Proud of the man you became. We will miss you-you left us far too soon.
Rest In Peace.
