Obituary of Barbara Joyce Taylor
Taylor, Barbara Joyce (nee Haylor)
Barbara Joyce Taylor passed away on August 19, 2017 at the age of 90. She was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on December 25, 1926. Barb was the beloved wife of Walt for 52 years.
Our family was delighted to celebrate mom's 90th birthday on Christmas Day 2016. Just a few weeks following that celebration, our mom fell at home. As a result of her injuries, mom could no longer return to her own home and subsequently she was required to receive care briefly at two hospitals. On March 3, Barb moved into long-term care at Cambridge Country Manor prior to transferring to Chartwell Elmira on March 30 until her passing on August 19, 2017. We express our sincere appreciation to the staff and management at these two facilities for the exceptional professional care and compassion they provided to our mom during her time with them. The staff and residents became part of our family.
Barb will be sincerely missed by her family. Dearly loved mother of Sandra Gates, Pat Taylor, Fred (Gail) Taylor, Kathy (Dave) Messer, Ron (Linda) Taylor, Harold (Shelley) Taylor, and Sue (Pat) McCabe. Grandma will be dearly missed by her 17 grandchildren and 11 spouses, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 spouse, and her 2 great-great-grandchildren. Barb is the much loved sister of Fred "Ab" Haylor of Queenston.
Predeceased by her husband Walter "Rusty" Clifford Taylor (1998), son Thomas Edward Taylor (2012), son-in-law Arthur Gates (2009), parents William (1970) and Kate Haylor (1984), sister Kathleen Dill (1990), brothers William "Bud" Haylor (2009), and Gerald Haylor (2012).
Barb and Rusty worked hard over the years on their broiler chicken farm on the outskirts of Welland to provide a wonderful life for their family. The family moved to the Elmira area in the 1970's and Mom continued to live and care for herself in her home until her unfortunate fall on January 16, 2017.
Mom's greatest joy was spending time with her many children, grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. She always spoiled us all with her home-made chocolate chip cookies, lemon and apple pies, as well as freshly baked cheese and pizza buns. Always having a jigsaw puzzle on the go kept her alert. She normally finished a 500-piece puzzle every week of the year. When Christmas-time was approaching, she had her days organized so that she could finish the puzzles she had been given on the previous Christmas/Birthday before she'd receive more for the upcoming Christmas/Birthday celebration.
Barb enjoyed the summer at her cottage in Marten River where she spent her time there relaxing in her front porch overlooking the water. From there, she could see her neighbours head out onto the lake in their boats and return to their docks at dusk, and she could also watch the "big trucks" go past in the distance on the highway. Mom also loved to keep an eye on the hummingbirds drinking as they hovered around the feeders she always kept full in anticipation of their return.
In keeping with Barb's wishes, cremation has taken place through Dreisinger Funeral Home in Elmira.
A Celebration of Barb's life will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Pleasantview Funeral Home (2000 Merrittville Highway, Thorold, ON L0S 1E6 905-892-1699). Family and friends are invited to join us at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel for the service which will be followed by interment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. Our family invites all guests to a reception and time of fellowship in the Woodland Terrace Reception Room located inside Pleasantview Funeral Home immediately following the interment.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to Chateau Gardens Auxilliary at Chartwell Elmira Long-Term Care, 11 Herbert Street, Elmira, ON N3B 2B8 (519-669-2921), or the charity of one's choice, would be greatly appreciated in lieu of floral expressions of sympathy.
