Obituary of Mary Huschka

Huschka, Mary ~ Maria (Mary) Christina Huschka (Baal) died peacefully at Grand River Hospital on November 20, 2016. Born March 9, 1937, in Kettzelsdorf, Romania, Mary immigrated to Canada at the age of 14 and moved to Elmira at age 20 where she happily resided until her passing. She was the beloved wife of the late Bob Huschka (2015). Survived by her siblings Hilde Kiss, Gary Baal, Edda Baal, Kurt Baal, and sister-in-law Shearn Baal; and her children Rita, Tom (Brenda), and Robbie. Mary will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren Joshua Sprague (Erin), Sabrina Hutchison (David), Kyle Huschka (Amanda), Brittany Huschka (Paul), Sara Bews (Shawn); and great-grandchildren Owen, Kade, Finley, Owyn, Kenley, and Sidney. Prior to her failing health, Mary was very active in the Concordia Club, Kitchener, including being elected as the Club’s first female president. This role made Mary the first female president of any ethnic club in Canada. Mary also sat on the Multi-Cultural Council of Ontario and was active for the Liberal Party of Canada with her late husband Bob Huschka. Never one to shy away from her beliefs, and not afraid to speak them, Mary was also a big softie if you knew her. In her younger days, Mary was an avid bowler and skilled chess player and she retained her passionate card skills throughout her life. She was kind, generous, and famous for her highly sought after potato salad.
