Obituary of Elgin Cassel
Cassel, Elgin Charles ~ Passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, on Monday, August 15, 2016, in his 90th year. Elgin Cassel, of Chateau Gardens (Chartwell) in Elmira, was the beloved husband of Florence (Cybulski) Cassel (1994). Loving father of Jane and Jerry Dietrich, June and Bill Dudgeon, Karen and Jim Kieswetter, Gail and Ken Kieswetter, Kathy and Dennis Kieswetter, Chris and Ken Paul, Kim and Dennis Preikschas, and Tony Cassel. Survived by 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Art, Lloyd and Maria, Joe and Cheri, sister Sheila Etmanski, and sisters-in-law Florence Cybulski, Rita Cybulski, Theresa Cassel, Stella Cassel, Hilda Cassel and Sandra Cassel, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his infant son Joseph (1955), sisters Doris (William) Hahn and Mary (Tony) Cybulski, brothers Edmund, Leonard (Barb), William, and Murray, brothers-in-law Dominic Etmanski, Joe (Julia) Cybulski, John (Margaret) Cybulski, Martha (Mick) Borutski, Ambrose (Elsie) Cybulski, Helen (Tony) Gregg, Pete (Margaret) Cybulskie, Angus Cybulski, and Dominic Cybulskie, and sister-in-law Suzanna Cassel. Elgin was born on December 23, 1926 and was the son of Herbert and Collette (Foerster) Cassel. He was retired from Uniroyal in Kitchener. He farmed in Glen Allan before living on William Street, and then Chateau Gardens in Elmira. He was a member of St. Teresa’s Parish in Elmira. The family will receive relatives and friends at Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira, on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with parish prayers at 1:45 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 19 Flamingo Dr., Elmira, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s RC Cemetery, Macton. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Chateau Gardens Auxiliary. A special thank you to the 7th floor nursing staff at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Dr. Kelly and Dr. Jones, and also the staff at Chateau Gardens for taking such good care of Elgin.
