Obituary of Harvey Martin

Martin, Harvey B. ~ Passed away after a brief illness on Friday, January 1, 2016 at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, at the age of 85 years. Harvey Martin, of RR 1, Elmira, was the beloved husband of the late Minerva (Metzger) Martin (1998). Loved father of Ruth (Allie) Misener of Nova Scotia, Murray (Joyce) of Elmira, James (Susan) of Floradale, and Paul (Janice) of Beachburg. Loving grandfather of Travis (Janet), Matthew (Corrie), Corey (fiancée Leslie), Tom (Steph), Luke (fiancée Orisha), Jeremy, Abby, Jackson, and Jacob; and great-granddaughter Kya. Dear brother of Rita Brubacher, Elsie (Clarence) Weber, Earl (Alice) Martin, Margaret Freeman, and Laverne (Adele) Martin. Fondly remembered by the Metzger family. Predeceased by his parents Cleason and Elizabeth (Brubacher) Martin, and brothers-in-law Enos Brubacher and Elmer Freeman. Harvey drove truck for Martin Feed Mills for 44 years, 3 million miles, accident free. He was a faithful member of Elmira Mennonite Church. He spent many years volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and went to Haiti twice with FIDA. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Elmira Mennonite Church, 58 Church St. W., Elmira. Interment in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery prior to the service. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Habitat for Humanity. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and other staff in St. Mary’s ICU and 3 East Cardiology for their compassionate care.
