Obituary of June Pettie
June joined her Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, following a seven year battle with melanoma. She is now in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, joining her husband, Wayne (2006), her beloved spouse for 61 years. She is the mother of John and Margaret Pettie of Port Elgin, and Lynda and Steven Weber of Waterloo. June adored her grandchildren, Chantelle Love of Toronto, and Matthew Love of Sydney, Australia. She will be fondly remembered by Steven’s children, Christopher and Sheila Lewis and their twins Caerwyn and Sebastian, and Brandon and Julie Lewis and their son Harrison. June was Harrison’s much loved “Gigi”. She will also be missed by her special “adopted” grandchildren, Nathanael, Alayna and Victoria Frey. June was predeceased by her parents, H.L. (Lefty) and Gertrude (Schedewitz) Weichel. She is survived by her dearly loved sister, Gloria (Gitch) Wegener of Lake Charles, L.A., brothers Bill (Muriel) Weichel of Baden, and Michael (Rita) Weichel of Waterloo. June will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, and many friends. As avid gardeners, June and her husband Wayne had been co-presidents of the Elmira Horticultural Society, as well as being very involved in supporting the work of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, holding several offices there. June was employed for almost 50 years at Uniroyal Chemical, from the days it was known as Naugatuck Chemical. In her retirement, volunteering was a large part of June’s life, especially being a willing supporter at Chateau Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 27 Mill St., Elmira. Interment will follow in Elmira Union Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Lisaard House, Cambridge.
