Obituary of Verna Koenig

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Freeport Health Centre following a short illness, at the age of 97 years. Verna was born near Linwood on June 22, 1917. Beloved wife of the late Otto Koenig (1959). Loving mother of Janet and her husband Edward Hackbart of Heidelberg. Grandmother of Judy Hackbart, Donna and her husband David Rogers, David Hackbart and his wife Melanie, and James Hackbart. Great nana and grandmother to Melissa (Rory) Zorn, Jennifer Hackbart, Stephanie (Tom) Martin, Tyler Hackbart, Todd Rogers and Kristyna Rogers. Predeceased by her parents August and Minnie Holzschuh, her sister Frieda (Harry) Kreutzweiser, brothers Lawrence (Helen) Holzschuh, Elwood (Helen) Holzschuh, brothers and sisters-in-law John and Anna Koenig and Delphine and David Heipel, grandson Bradley (in infancy). She was a sales clerk at Kresge’s Department Store, Kitchener for 23 years. Friends are invited to share their memories of Verna with her family during visitation at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., with reception to follow. Interment in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Linwood. Thanks to the nurses at Freeport Health Centre for the special care she received. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Service Summary Visitation: At the Funeral Home, Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.; reception to follow. Interment in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Linwood.
