Obituary of William Sommers

Sommers, William (Bill) ~ Peacefully passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Grand River Hospital Freeport Site. Bill, at the age of 84 years, was the beloved husband of Delores (Petzold) Sommers of Elmira. Dear brother of Yvonne Ashley of Kitchener, and John (Sheila) Sommers of London. Loving uncle of Catherine Sommers and Gregory (Dawn) Sommers, all of London, and great-uncle of Jessica Sommers and Ryan Sommers. Dear brother-in-law of Dorothy (Lorne) Weppler of Waterloo, Kenneth (Cindy) Petzold of Colborne, Margaret Petzold of Kitchener. Loving uncle of Tina Nantais, Timothy (Shawna) Petzold, all of Kitchener, Gary Weppler (Jackie) of Linwood, and great-uncle of Brittany Hunt and Samantha Nantais. Lovingly remembered by his caregiving cousin Jane Adcoe of Kitchener. Predeceased by his parents Percy and Clara Sommers, his brothers-in-law Bruce Ashley and Howard Petzold. Bill worked all his career at Ellis & Howard Ltd. (which became Graybar Electric) until his retirement. Bill was a life member in the Glenrose Lodge No. 628, the Waterloo County Shrine Club, Moore Sovereign Consistory, Vallette Preceptory No. 64, and the Kitchener Chapter of Royal Arch Masons No. 117. At Bill’s request cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral home visitation. A private family service will be held in the chapel at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira. A memorial gathering to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion (11 First Street East, Elmira) on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. In memory of Bill, donations to the building fund at St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and may be made by calling the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira (519-669-2207). Service Summary Memorial Celebration: Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion (11 First Street East, Elmira) ~ Donations: St. James Lutheran Church - Building Fund (60 Arthur St. S., Elmira, ON N3B 2M9)
