Obituary of Iain Skinner

Iain MacKenzie Skinner ~ 1947 – 2014 ~ Iain MacKenzie Skinner died peacefully in his sleep at University Hospital, London, Ont., on August 30, 2014. Predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Alex Skinner of Glasgow, Scotland, Iain will be dearly missed by his wife, Marlene (Leahy); his mother-in-law, Edna Leahy; his stepson, Jody Dolson, and daughter-in-law, Sabrina (Richmond); as well as his five grandchildren. Iain leaves behind a brother, Donald Skinner, and sister-in-law, Lillian (Stevenson), and two nieces in Falkirk, Scotland. Iain emigrated from Scotland in 1974 and worked in Canada as a mechanical engineer. During his career, he contributed to the work of the Pickering Power Plant, Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, Ontario Power Generation, Babcock and Wilcox, G.P. Dickey and Associates, as well as other organizations in Scotland and New Brunswick. Iain was a gifted musician who marched to the beat of his own up-tempo drummer. He will be missed for his sunny disposition, his lyrical Scottish brogue and the positive energy he brought to all that he did. The family would like to thank the dedicated nursing staff at University Hospital and especially Dr. McDougall, Dr. Ng and Dr. Baker. They have also very much appreciated the wonderful care of their local family physician, Dr. Bodkin. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Linwood, on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Due to Iain’s rare neurological disorder, neurofibromatosis, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the London Health Sciences Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
