Obituary of Lindsay Nicholas Hedrich
It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce Nick has completed his journey in this life. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, November 8, 2013 in his 59th year. Adored husband and greatest love, best friend and partner of Sally (Scherrer) of Elmira, for 35 years. Beloved father of Michael Hedrich and his wife Janet, Janessa Schott (Hedrich) and her husband Jordan. Survived by James and Gertrude Scherrer, John and Patricia Scherrer, Lou and Philip McKee, Nancy and Bruce Hipkiss and sister Linda Hedrich. Nick will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews and their loved ones. Predeceased by father Claire, mother Marjorie and brother Larry Hedrich. A lifelong partner and forever friend, devoted father, avid learner, brilliant handyman, with intellectual wit. Nick was a community volunteer in many areas including the Elmira Sugar Kings (’97 Sutherland Cup vice-president) and minor sports. A graduate of the Ivey Business School of Western University with an Executive Masters. Nick enjoyed spending time relaxing on the deck, reading or watching the sunset at his oasis, the cottage, with his wife and best friend Sally, at his side. Special thanks for the passion and support from Nick’s health care team while he received treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Stevens and his support staff, all of the 6th floor doctors, nurses and staff at the Grand River Cancer Centre. Also to Dr. Keleher and the palliative care team. Thank you for the outpouring of support from friends and family. At Nick’s request, cremation has taken place. We invite you to share in a celebration of Nick’s life during a memorial visitation at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur Street South, Elmira, on Monday, November 11, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A memorial mass to remember and honour Nick’s life will be held at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 19 Flamingo Drive, Elmira, on Tuesday, November 12, at 10:30am. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Nick’s memory to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or the Lymphoma Society of Canada.
We have lost a gentle man who was also a gentleman.
