Obituary of Homer Schwindt
Peacefully went home to be with his Lord at Heritage House, St. Jacobs on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the age of 94 years. Homer was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia (Weber) Schwindt (November 26, 2011). Lovingly remembered by his son Larry Schwindt and his foster son Paul Quenneville both of Elmira. Brother of Bruce and Kay Schwindt of Courtney, B.C., Susan Holst of Waterloo, Eileen and Vern Gingrich of Elmira, and brother-in-law of Lorne Martin of Elmira and Marion Schwindt of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents George and Marion (Miller) Schwindt, his brothers Arnold, Floyd, Ward, and Howard, and sister Melba Martin. Homer was a very active member of the Floradale Mennonite Church, having been a deacon for a number of years. He was asked to ring the bell leading the procession from the old sanctuary into the new foyer. In 1985 he received the Elmira Citizen of the year award for providing a welcome and safe place for many of the town children to play. Homer also served on the board of directors for the Association for the Mentally Challenged. He was very involved in, and was instrumental in organizing. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Floradale Mennonite Church on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment to take place at Floradale Mennonite Cemetery at a later date. In his memory, donations to FIDA, MCC or the building fund of Floradale Mennonite Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
