Obituary of Earl S. Martin
Martin, Earl S. ~ Died peacefully at Heritage House, St. Jacobs on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease, at the age of 85 years. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vera (Weber) Martin, daughter Gloria (Duane) Eby, sons Glenn (Pauline) and Kevin. Grandfather of Sarah and Ben Eby, Carly, Fraser (Kelitta) and Simon Martin. Great-grandfather of Izaac Martin. Brother of Abner S. (Ruth) Martin. Brother-in-law of Mary Yoder, Verna Weber, Lewis (Marg) Weber and David Weber. Predeceased by his parents David and Agnes (Shantz) Martin, sister Mildred and brother-in-law Abner B. Martin, brother Leonard and sister-in-law Fern Martin. Earl and Vera enjoyed operating the dairy farm where he was born and raised. After 28 years as dairy farmers, the dairy herd was sold in 1978 and Earl did cash crop farming and sales for Pioneer Seed Company. Earl served on a number of boards over the years including, holding offices at Elmira Mennonite Church, the Milk Marketing Board, Waterloo County Co-Op and Fairview Mennonite Home. Earl and Vera enjoyed extensive world travel to most of the world’s continents. They have been residents of Heritage House for the last two years and prior to that lived at Parkwood Mennonite Home. A special thank you to the staff at Heritage House for their care of Earl during his stay. The family will receive their relatives and friends at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Saturday, September 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The interment will take place on Sunday, September 22nd at 2 p.m. in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Elmira Mennonite Church at 2:30 p.m. After the service there will be a reception in the church hall. In Earl’s memory, donations to MCC or Elmira Mennonite Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
