Obituary of Bruce Farquhar

Farquhar, Bruce Milton ~ It is with sorrow in our hearts that the family announces the passing of Bruce Farquhar on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the age of 76 years. Bruce was the loving and devoted husband, best friend and soul mate to Irene of Elmira, and the loving and proud father, good pal and mentor to his two sons, Michael and his fiancée Karen of Cambridge and Paul of Kitchener. Bruce will always be lovingly remembered by his family. Also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Sally Farquhar of Kitchener, brother-in-law David Watson of Nova Scotia, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Joy Farquhar, brothers Robert and Ken Farquhar, and sister Doris Schnarr. In his early years, Bruce was involved in the sport of weightlifting, and won an Ontario Championship in his weight class. His sons also took up the sport, and Bruce was extremely proud of their accomplishments. Bruce had a passion for music, especially the music of the Big Band era. He had a vast knowledge of all the musicians of that era, and had a wonderful collection. He was a loyal employee of Ontario Glove Manufacturing Company in Waterloo for 47 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Leisureworld for all their care, acts of kindness and compassion. A special thank you also to Pastor Hans Borch and Vicar Jennifer Wirt for their visits, beautiful prayers, and words of comfort. Memorial visitation will be held at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. followed by interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In Bruce’s memory, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or St. James Lutheran Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
