Obituary of Dorothy Shail

SHAIL, Dorothy Lillian (nee Barker) ~ Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Parkwood Mennonite LTC in Waterloo on Friday, February 16th, in her 90th year. She was the dearly loved wife of the late Rev. Canon Harold Shail (2008) for 65 years. Proud and loving mother of Sandra Poolton and her husband Edward of Elmira, David (2011) and his wife Janet of St. Mary’s and Mark and his wife Helene of Timmins. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Paul Poolton (Lisa). Jeffrey Poolton (Jennifer), Melanie Earley (Carl), Jennifer Ehnes (Percy), Ryan Shail (Margarida), Melissa Pilotte (Mike), Brent Shail (Jenny) and her great grandchildren Charlotte, Nicholas, Aaron, Brooke, Nathan, Bailey, Taylor, Logan and Evan. Also survived by her brother Bob Barker (Suzanne) of St. Catharines, brother-in-law Jack Shail (Sarah) of Manitoba, sisters-in-law Maisie Shail and Georgie Barker both of Kirkland Lake. Predeceased by her brothers Gordon Barker, Donald Barker (Fran) and Sister Jean. A long time resident of Northern Ontario, Dorothy faithfully served as a clergy spouse in the faith communities in Schumacher (St. Chad’s Anglican) and Kapuskasing (St. Mark’s Anglican). She and Harold retired to North Bay in 1980 and subsequently to Waterloo in 2007. Dorothy was Past Worthy Matron of Fidelis Chapter O.E.S. in North Bay. Funeral Liturgy was held at All Saints Anglican Church in Waterloo on Sunday, February 17th , cremation followed. A Memorial Service and interment will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church in North Bay at a later date. Sincere thanks for the loving care provided by the staff at Parkwood and to Canon Robin Lyons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anglican Diocese of Moosonee, Parkwood Mennonite Home or a charity of your choice.
