Obituary of Cyril Stortz
Stortz, Cyril Ivan ~ November 20, 1932 - July 11, 2012 ~ Cyril Ivan Stortz, of St. Jacobs, formerly of Elmira passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol (nee Brown), a loving daughter, Patricia (St. Jacobs/Rome), and devoted sons, Gary (Linda) of Waterloo, Kevin (Pauline Mercier) of Elmira, and Stephen (Lori Embro) of Kitchener. He is the cherished grandfather of nine – Matthew (Ashley), Katie (Jake), Laura, Pamela, Samantha (Chava), Allie, Justin, Nathan and Stephanie, and five extended grandchildren – Matt Embro (Holly), Craig Embro (Jayme), Nicole Embro, Patrick Mercier (Rachel), and Collin Mercier (Stacy). Great-grandfather to Ava, Alex, Zack, Bree, and Carter. Predeceased by his parents John and Lucy (Sullivan), brothers Leonard (Helen), Frank and Mervyn, sisters Rita Ditner (Harvey) and Madeline Wahl Lang (Ben), sister-in-law Ruth (Wolf) Fink, brother-in-law Gordon Gingrich, and granddaughter Karen in infancy. Survived by sister-in-law Rita Stortz, and members of the Brown family – Howard (Mary) Brown, Jean (Walter) Hachborn, Betty Gingrich, Jack (Helen) Brown, Rev. William (Joyce) Brown, Sandra (Clinton) Rohr and many nieces and nephews. Cyril will be remembered for his gentle ways and soft spoken manner and his devotion to his family and church. The family would like to thank the School Sisters of Notre Dame at the Generalate in Rome, the medical staff at Aurelia Hospital in Rome, SkyServices, and Hamilton General Hospital for kindnesses throughout his long struggle. His journey home is now completed. Visitation at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, is Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Parish Prayers offered at 8 p.m. A Celebration of Cyril's life will take place at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 19 Flamingo Drive, Elmira, Father David Lewis presiding on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Donations to Development and Peace as expressions of sympathy may be made at the funeral home.
