Obituary of Harold Schaner

Schaner, Harold ~ Peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at KW Health Centre of Grand River Hospital. Harold was in his 85th year, of Elmira. Beloved husband of Audrey (Kraft) Schaner for 60 years. Dear father of Craig and Joan of Waterloo, Debra of Orangeville, Karen and Steven MacDonald of London. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Niki (Jonny), Lisa, Matt (Norma), Kelsi (Jeremy); Matthew, Brett and Lauren. Great-grandfather of Danika, Orlando, Anabella and Abigail. Brother-in-law of Helen Schaner of Kitchener. Harold was the last surviving member of his family having been predeceased by his parents, William and Emma (Giese) Schaner, three brothers, Walter, Arthur and Herman (in infancy), and six sisters, Isabel Smith, Edith Issler, Hazel Lackner, Helen Kenesky, Alma Weigel and Violet Schedewitz. Harold and his brother Art took over the family business, Schaner Coal and Feed of St. Jacobs, and later in addition owned and operated Schaner Fuels in Elmira. At Harold’s request cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral home visitation. A memorial service to celebrate Harold’s life and faith will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Hans Borch officiating. In his memory, donations to St. James Lutheran Church or Camp Oochigeas (camp for children with cancer) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira. Service Summary Memorial Service: Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 60 Arthur St. S., Elmira ~ Donations: St. James Lutheran Church (60 Arthur St. S., Elmira, ON N3B 2M9) or Camp Oochigeas (camp for children with cancer)
