It was an incredible privilege to work with Joanne as a colleague and friend in the Rural Education program at EDSS. Joanne worked tirelessly to connect with disengaged students in the rural setting and had such a natural gift for connecting with families, students, and colleagues. Her farm girl background, from growing up in Linwood, made this role a natural fit for her as she drove around from farm to farm to seek out these students and connect with the parents. Her natural conversational style, her deep and contagious laugh, and her depth of listening and empathy were such a gift to the students she served. She was a gift, and I feel so privileged to have known her and called her a friend and colleague. Joanne will be deeply missed. My heart goes out to you, her family, at this heart-breaking loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Linda Sauder Ruby

Steve, Leah and I were so sad to hear about Jo. Having gown up with her, and then reconnecting a few years ago, I loved that she had not changed. We are so sorry for your loss, Kevin, Allie, Tyler, Ryan and the whole Runstedler family. She was a wonderful person, gone too soon. Thinking of you all.
