When we were seminary students at AMBS we were often invites to sit and eat in Sherri's place. I fondly remember eating scalloped potatoes. They tasted like Waterloo County potatoes. Made me think of home. The fellowship was also warm and we had lots of fun. That year at seminary a few of us made a cookbook. I have been glancing through it and found lots of her contributions and a few anecdotes. In more recent years we would meet at church gatherings. She is missed.

My deepest condolences to the family of Sherri. My name is Nicky, my son Shawn and I were sponsored to have fellowship with the Martin's. We came from Jane and Finch, where we met the entire family. We were welcomed with open arms and were never judged. Sherri was a large part of that. My son was eager to learn how to play the piano, she helped him with that. We had lots of fun, good times and good food with lots of pastries. We Will miss her dearly. My son is very saddened by this. We will continually keep the family in prayer. God bless you. Nicky and Shawn.

It was always a joy to have Sherri in our Elkhart home... she was always up for creative play with our seminary baby, Mags, and the rest of us, too!

I had the honour of working with Sherri at two different long-term care homes and seeing the positive impacts she made in so many people’s lives. The residents would light up as soon as they saw her, especially when she had her guitar with her. Her level of passion for improving the lives of others was inspiring and Sherri was always there to support whoever needed it, no matter the circumstances.
I am so glad I got to call Sherri a coworker, but even happier I got to call her a friend!

I met Sherri and Caleb a few years ago, when she was enrolling Caleb at EDSS. We worked together closely and have kept in touch. I am most saddened that our community will be losing a woman who understood what equity, inclusion, and love for all people meant. She understood it intellectually and she lived it throughout her life. Sherri's heart and capacity to give was enormous. She was a loving, nurturing, protective mom, and she extended positive regard to all. Love to Caleb, Justin, James and family from the Learning Services team at EDSS and from our family. From my heart, Nanci Henderson

Sherri and I were together at AMBS and it was no surprise that we both quickly got involved on the student team that planned and led seminary community events and activities. Sherri was so good at pulling people together that we playfully joked that she was the "cruise director." People were her love and she took joy in gathering groups for meals and other happenings. She invited us to Floradale and Elmira several times including for Canadian Thanksgiving with her family and we always had a great time. How I wish I had her knack for recalling people's names! Surely she continued to form community through church, family and chaplaincy these many years and will be sadly missed by many including me.

Sherri and I met while participating in the very first MCEC DVBS troupe (1991?). She was the glue that bonded us together. At the end of the summer she gave us each a journal, having taken the time to select a fabric for the cover that reflected our personalities. I still have mine. While Sherri and I didn't remain close, I have enjoyed running into her at various events and taking the time to catch up. Even at this distance of time and geography I can feel the loss. She will be missed by many. Her life has left a mark.
I can still recall the sound of her laugh.

To all of Sherry's family: Sherry was a pebble in a pond - reaching out in waves and making a difference with her infectious smile, caring words, compassionate heart and joy of life! Especially appreciate her gifts during the passing years ago, of my mother in law at Tavistock Mennonite Church. May God surround you with his love!

Sherri was the lead pastor when I started as a youth pastor. She was a pillar of compassion, perseverence and organization. Her joy and enthusiasm for people were evident from the first day I met her. She was an encouragement as I got started, even when things in her own life were troubled.
I was fortunate enough to bump into her a few times since then and her joy was evident every time.
My heart is heavy for you James, as you make the difficult practical and emotional steps to envision life without her.

My heartfelt sympathies go to James, Justin and Caleb and her Martin family. I first saw Sherri as a little girl when we camped at Green Acre park and each year saw her and Tammi growing up. Little did I know at the time how much it would mean to me that Sherri was the chaplain at Nithview when Tilman lived there for 10 months before his death. She was someone that knew him in the years before mixed dementia came into our lives. She also provided an important link for me to Tilman when COVID intefered with normal visiting. Thanks Sherri and love.

Sherri was a wonderful pastor to my parents Mildred and the late Ralph Brenneman while a chaplain at Nithview Community in New Hamburg. May your knowledge of God’s love bring you peace and may your memories bring you comfort in this time of sorrow.

My heart aches for James, Justin and Caleb, and the entire Martin family who is grieving. I join in your grief and hold you in my heart and prayers as you have to make this horrible, sudden adjustment. I'm so grateful for the time at AMBS with Sherri, and was always amazed by how well she stayed in touch with so many of us! It was such a joy to hear about her boyfriend James and then to celebrate their wedding. And even more joy when their family doubled with Justin's and Caleb's arrivals. Sherri's heart just kept expanding! And her love lives on in each of you. In Christ's peace, Teresa Dutchersmith, Goshen, IN

Sherri-Lynn was always smiling, laughing and and had a kind word for everyone. Being an older cousin, I actually often babysat Sherri & Tammy when they were younger, and the Uncle's Martin brothers quartet would practice singing at their home in Floradale. After we grew up we weren't as connected as we were before, but whenever we saw each other, it was like old times. My heart and arms encircle the family, trying to deal with this. Prayers for God's strength to all of you. Love Val Martin-Sowers

I have many memories of New Years Eve parties at James and Sherri’s house where we watched Mr. Bean movies late into the night. Also visiting her at her parents place in Floradale to play with the cat.
