February 14, 1945 – October 14, 2021
Peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Grand River Hospital after a seven year battle with cancer, at the age of 76.
Beloved husband and best friend of Jeneene (Korell) for over 52 years. Dear and devoted father of Robyn and Glen Runstedler, Amy and Doug Robertson and Heidi and Gerry Chalmers. Loving grandfather of Erica (Steve), Nicole; Brianna (Brandon), Brooke (Josh), Jena, Jordyn; Keaton, and Sydney (Scott). Brother of Clare (Christal), Raymond (Joan), and Ken. John is lovingly remembered by the Korell family, his nieces, nephews and their families, and his many friends.
Predeceased by his parents Herman and Lydia Ann (Brubacher) Kappes, and his brother Carl.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. Masks are mandatory and social distancing is in effect. Please phone to reserve a time at 519-669-2207.
A private memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Heidelberg. A livestream of John’s service will be available on his tribute page at the time of service on the funeral home website. Private interment in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
In John’s memory, donations to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Epilepsy Ontario - Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
