We are sad to lose a dear friend and (grand) motherly companion with you, Edith. Our shared interest in ancient Turkey brought us together for the first time in fall 2010. From then on, we (Doro and Altay) enjoyed many conversations about history, politics and literature with you, and together with the kids, we feasted on your German cakes (Pflaumenstreusel was Altay’s favorite), and even got to try your Rinderroullade, another of your German specialties, while you could taste Bienenstich from the Rhineland. And we could not refuse, when you insisted on a glass of Riesling from the Mosel (or two). We thus shared the good memories of our German homeland, while also being grateful for the good lives that we were / are living in our new Canadian homes. You were delighted to see our children grow up, and touched all of our hearts. While we know that you are in a better place now, we shall miss your witty and tasteful company, Edith.
Doro and Altay with Luisa, Leander, Leo and Lilly
