Dear Dianne and Robyn,
I send my heart-felt condolences to you and your family all the way from Virginia. Dan’s genuinely caring heart and playful spirit will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Way back in the mid-1990’s, shortly after my husband and I moved to Canada, I volunteered to work in the John Howard Society, hoping it would lead to meaningful employment there. Dan gave me the opportunity to serve as co-leader in his men’s anger management group. I had a great time working with him and appreciated his respectful, caring, skillful approach.
Robyn, the first time I was ever in his office, he showed me a photo of you. He explained with great warmth and pride, “She is four years old.” Then, Dianne, with a big smile, he showed me a picture of you.
Back in Virginia since 2009, I remain profoundly grateful that Dan opened the door for me into the John Howard Society. This led to my own exciting job there among a wonderful group of dynamic people. Dan became a great friend and I’m so sad that he is no longer among us. ~Judith Lee~

Dan was an amazing human who impacted so many people in the world including me. As a supervisor, mentor, colleague and friend, he helped shape my view of the social work profession. He was compassionate and gracious, always beaming when speaking about his family. I am grateful to have known him. My deepest sympathies to his wife and daughter.

I have fond memories of working with Dan at JHS. While we worked in separate programs, his passion for 'the boys' in PAR and working with Alex were obvious to anyone in our workplace. He would come to the lobby and greet the men who were often unsure of what to expect and reluctantly waiting to attend an intake meeting with him. He would say 'gentlemen, come with me'. He offered these men dignity. I remember his love for Dianne and Robyn, his affection for cats, his yummy homemade pizza and his tales of Cuba. As I read his obituary, I smiled because all of the things that I remembered about him, are things that were authentically Dan. He brought his whole self to work. Who Dan was at work, was who he was in real life. Dianne and Robyn, I extend my condolences to you both as you cherish the memories of a man who loved you both and lived life. Dan, I will hold these memories close and smile alongside my tears.

We will miss Dan and his great voice and harp skills, along with his questionable wit and dark humor .
You can hear him singing in our You Tube website. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxxNGBk1t-4
Just look up "Breslau Blues Band" - Mr. Lucky & Wagon Wheel.
Also many great jams at his Elmira pad.

Dear Dan,
You have been a phenomenal mentor - personally and professionally - to myself and to soooo many others. Your spirit and passion thrive on. Yet there will never be another Dan Beckett as kind hearted, valiant and inspiring as you. "To go where no man has gone before", as you would say... So very blessed to have worked with you and have you in my life.
Dianne and Robyn, my thoughts and prayers have been and continue to be with you. Dan always lit up when he spoke of both of you at work; sharing amazing gifts you have and have all shared together.

Dear Diane
Thinking of you and your daughter Robin at this very difficult time. Jim and I loved our time with you and Dan each summer - so easy and such fun to be with you both. Sitting here now listening to John Prine which was a frequent and favourite request of mine that Dan was kind enough to perform. Such a great soul who always made me laugh.
Thanks for the memories Dan.

Dear Dan,
We will miss you so much. We will miss your infectious smile and your goofy sense of humour. We will miss how openly you invited us into your home and treated us like family whenever we were there. We will miss your kind, gentle, calm, laid back demeanor. We will miss the memories of the Elmira Maple Syrup Festivals we spent together and will grieve the stolen memories of those still to come. We will miss the way you greeted us all at the door at 6:45 am with coffee brewing and Baileys already waiting for us on the table! We will cherish the cottage memories and all the good times we had. Jamie will miss his golf games with you. Rest In Peace Dan. You were truly loved and will be truly missed.
Dianne and Robyn, our hearts are with you. Sending love to you both as you navigate through this most difficult time.
Big hugs from the Valee Family

Dear Dianne and Robyn.
Our hearts break for both of you. The depth of your loss is unimaginable. We hope you can feel love surrounding you as we join you in mourning your beloved Dan.
We will forever miss our friend Dan. We loved his smile, his irreverent moments that made us laugh, his beautiful singing voice and the way he played his guitar. We will remember sharing a love of music with jam sessions and Folk Night at the Registry concerts, sitting at the cottage kitchen table, him pouring the best gin and tonics, signifying the beginning of he weekend. We will always remember his love of animals: his kitty cats, a turtle named 'Snappy" and his baby squirrel, Alice. We will smile when we think of his red running shoes and his neatly pressed golf shirt, shared cigars on the golf course and the deck. We will never forget how being in his company made us feel good, warm, accepted and full of joy.
We remember his love and kindness to his Mom. Most of all, we will remember how he loved both of you deeply and how his 'girls' meant everything to him. Dan was always open with his love and affection and never afraid to say, 'I love you'.
Oh 'Danny boy...It's you must go and I must bide." We will miss you forever.
