My memories of George stretch back a number of decades. A Christian youth movement sprang up in Sussex, NB in the early 70s. George was one of those adult church members who could see past the long hair and bell-bottom pants to the spiritual sincerity of some of the young people living in Sussex at the time. With his contacts, he located spare space in the basement of the local cinema and helped establish the youth drop-in centre, Shalom. Scores of young people congregated there for singing and sharing their faith with all who came through the doors. George (and Amy) impacted the lives of countless youth, many of whom have gone into ministry or become stalwart spiritual leaders in their own faith communities. All who knew George, knew him as a quiet, yet, forceful presence wherever he chose to offer his support--his is a lasting influence.

So sorry to hear of George's passing. I grew up in Plaster Rock and knew Amy and George when young but especially knew George even better when working as a Forest Ranger in Hampton. George was looking after the Saint John office and we did lots together including his wonderful Grade 4 school program. I learned so much from his quiet thoughtful mentorship.

George and Amy were instrumental in my life when I came to Christ in 1972. We had so many great conversations about theology and the Bible. They were a great blessing to me.

I was so sorry to hear of your dads passing, Janice. We know he’s happy and at peace but there’s never a good time to say goodbye
My heart to you and your family.
I’m sorry I won’t be able to join you today but I followed along and remembered.
I remember your dad as a solid, steady, consistently kind hero kind of guy
A hero to me
I remember the summer I spent planting trees in NB. I always felt he considered my small effort to be significant so I felt so good about it. Over the years if I saw him he’d let me know how my trees were doing. I loved that.
I continue to remember
And you are still so special to me
Hugs

Wow, so many memories! Back in the 80s, Bruce and I were invited to spend at least a week with Janice, George and Amy, in their home in Sussex, NB. That was when I really got to know them, and George made sure we got to see, and experience, a lot of 'Maritime' life. In more recent years, I got to experience George's mischievous smile and laughter, and shared music with him at Chartwell. George loved his Bible, and loved His Saviour, and loved to be with people. Bless you, Janice and Gerry, as your lives will change, but you have honoured your parents with care. Marlene Toye

George, what a sense of humour, what a big heart for people and seeing them trust in the Lord ! I treasure the conversations and his presence in bible studies at Chartwell. He will be greatly missed but we know He is with the Lord he loved!
