Obituary of Bryon Vandenberg

Vandenberg, John “Bryon”

With profound sadness, we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of Bryon at his residence in Kitchener on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the age of 69. Beloved and doting husband of Diana (nee Gutoskie) for 37 years. Proud father of John and Chantel Vandenberg, Tom and Sjoukje Vandenberg, Cindy and George Briggs. Adoring grandpa to Breanna, Alexis, Sadie, Connor, Ashley, B.J., Brad, and great-grandpa to Kristen, Alyna, Kaitlyn, Nyla, Dylan, Drake and Callie.

Missed by his loving brother Wayne and sister-in-law Sharon Vandenberg, in-laws Marie and Hank Willms, Carmel and Bob Hutcheson, Patricia Yutronkie, Rita Lorbetskie, Rosemary Vandenberg, Rose and Andy Gutoskie.

Predeceased by his parents Carole and Jack Vandenberg, brother Garfield Vandenberg, sister Dorothy Hindsman, sister-in-law Florence Chapeskie, and brothers-in-law Eddie Chapeskie, Delmar Hindsman, Leonard Yutonkie and Benny Lorbetskie.

Bryon will be fondly remembered for his impressive arm wrestling skills, his bowling finesse, and his love of Elvis, old westerns (especially featuring John Wayne) and the Golden Girls. But above all else he will be remembered for his love of his family, whom he cherished and placed at the centre of his world.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St.  S., Elmira. Masks are mandatory. Please wait in your vehicle until a parking attendant invites you in.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 19 Flamingo Drive, Elmira. Masks are mandatory. Please contact the Dreisinger Funeral Home to register your attendance. A private family interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
