Scherrer, Gertrude (Honey)
At home surrounded by love and family, on Friday, December 20, 2019. Gertie was the beloved wife of Jim Scherrer for 68 years.
Dear mother of John (Pat) Scherrer, Mary Lou (Phil) McKee, Sally Hedrich, and Nancy (Bruce) Hipkiss.
Wonderful Nana to Edward, Peter, Andy (Mary-Anne) Scherrer, Richard (Chelsea) McKee, James (Amelia) McKee, Rachel (Eric) Drouillard, William (Sara) McKee, Michael (Janet) Hedrich, Janessa (Jordan) Schott, Nicole (Kyle) Lamb, and Philip (Carrie) Hipkiss.
Gertie enjoyed her fifteen great-grandchildren, Weston, Wyatt, Emerson, Alina, Waylon, Jack, and Audrey McKee, Nichola and Grant Hedrich, Lily and Claire Schott, Elodie and Coco Lamb, Benjamin and Holden Hipkiss. Survived by her sisters Edna Zinger and Helen Palach.
Predeceased by her parents Edward and Margaret (Baessler) Walter, brothers Frank and Willard Walter, and son-in-law Nick Hedrich.
Gertie was devoted to her family and treasured “drop in visits”. She enjoyed sewing, baking, and driving her Caddy. Watching Tiger Woods play golf and reading a good mystery novel delighted her. She will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by all.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church, 19 Flamingo Dr., Elmira, with Father Peter Meyer officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Immediately following the mass, a reception will be held. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations to St. Teresa’s Parish Building Fund or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated and may be placed through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira (519-669-2207)
