I was saddened to hear the news from our 1975 Royal College basketball team captain Vikum Siriwardana, who was Modera's childhood friend. It’s a shame that we were not in touch after leaving school. Vikum organised past Royal Cagers get together in Colombo in November 2012. There were around 50 past players representing several generations of Royal Cagers present for the get together.
I share the same sentiments as Theja Cooray of our dear teammate Modera. What an outstanding basketball player he was, it was a sheer delight to watch Modera shooting the basketball. My memories are still fresh of the tournament that we took part, which was held at St Michael's Batticaloa. Modera also toured India with the Sri Lankan schools basketball team in early 70’s captained by Andy Anderson and late R E Chitranjan who was superintendent of police attached to Dehiwela-Mt Lavinia at the time of his demise.
Now I came to know that Modera was not only a great sportsman but a musician too, plus he and his wife Sriyani along with their family have done various charity work with their local community in Canada helping the needy back home. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed. May God give you the comfort and peace that you seek and may the soul of your loved one rest in peace.

We are all saddened by the loss of such a great man who we considered a big brother. When we first moved to Canada, we were able to make a wonderful connection with Ranjith and his family. Not only were did they become good friends to us but family. His children grew up with ours and we all became very close. He was such a kind and charismatic man who could always make someone laugh. Even when we moved to California, we still kept in contact with him and his family. We will miss our brother but we hope he finds peace now. Dunindu and Suhansi will miss their wonderful uncle who always showed them magic tricks and let them dress him up in costumes. He was a great man and they both admired him greatly. They both wish his family the best and for Ranjith Uncle to Rest In Peace.

I had the good fortune of playing Basketball with him .
As mentioned in the obituary he was a true athlete. I have seen him jumping high up facing his back to the ring , collecting the ball mid air then turning 180 degrees & shooting before landing. Ranjith is the only one I have seen doing it in Sri Lanka .
So sad to hear about his passing away. Please accept my deepest sympathies . May his soul Rest In Peace !
