Aleda Reist

Obituary of Aleda Reist

September 20, 1923 – November 5, 2018

“How are you Aleda?” “Just how you see me!” would always be her reply—with a little smile. Aleda was married to Howard S. Reist (2014). They lived in the Glen Allan and Floradale area for years. Amos B. and Elvina (Bauman) Martin were her parents. She had brothers and sisters: Melinda, Adeline, Ermina, Perceda, Cleason, and Onias. As a little girl, her view from the first stone farm house on the right on Jigg’s Hollow Road, was the covered bridge at West Montrose. It was a bridge she walked across several times a week to school on the Winterbourne Road. “Did your father ever give you a ride?” It seemed so far for a child. “Not too often!” she’d laugh. “Why would he? I’ve got little legs to walk it.” Aleda wrote ‘things’ down, just to keep ‘things’ straight. She loved her family and all her nephews and nieces and was there for them for all their needs. She took in strangers, too. She would quietly visit with you and feed you with wholesome food and when you were all secure and relaxed, she would soundly beat you in crokinole—repeatedly. She loved the Bible and its hope and would share it with you. It shaped her life. Thank you to the staff at Chartwell and Barnswallow Place. She felt safe with you. There will be a memorial service for Aleda on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall, 126 Barnswallow Drive, Elmira.  Arrangements entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
