Obituary of James "Jim" Subject
After a three year dance with Charlie (Jim’s nickname for his cancer) the song has ended. On November 3, 2018, in his 69th year, Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the house he transformed into our home. Cancer could not rob him of his tenacious spirit or his sense of humour!
James George Subject leaves behind his “person”, his loving wife Patricia (nee Ryan), four awesome children, Carrie (Jamie) Reidel, Ryan (Stacey), Jeffrey, and Nathaniel (Kinga) Subject. His five little loves - Eva, Aubrey, and Phoebe Reidel, Neala and Abel James Subject - will miss their beloved Gramps, who taught them all about his chipmunks and feeding the birds. Carol (Don) France, Linda (Stan) Rowbotham, Barb (Chris) Lowery, and Barry (Donna) Subject live on with fond memories of their brother Jimmy. Jim will be sadly missed by his extended Ryan family, and his ‘posse’ at CI Craftsmen.
Throughout his three year journey, Jim had the most incredible care - from our chemo lounge family at BGH, Doctors Brian Lee, Leyo Ruo, and Bernadette McNeil, the St. Joseph Hospice staff, and our dear and lively Tracey - who spent so much time with us providing in-home nursing care. We called them our ‘angels’ and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for having walked through this journey with our family.
Jim’s final wishes are entrusted to the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, Ontario, with heartfelt thanks to Grace for making them come true. A private family visitation and cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to a mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Church, 17 Washington Street, Paris, ON on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11 a.m., celebrated by Father Joseph. Preceding the mass, beginning at 10 a.m., there will be visitation. A luncheon reception will follow at St. James Anglican Church, 8 Burwell Street, Paris, ON. A private family interment will take place at a later date in St. Columban Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Cancer Clinic at the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation (link and address below) or Sacred Heart Parish (address below) are appreciated.
A note from Jim: If you are reading my obituary, you know me well! You know suits were not my ‘thing!’ Gentlemen, please wear what gives you comfort!
