Gingrich, Vernon (Vern)
Died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 20, 2017, at Chartwell LTC Residence in Elmira, at the age of 90 years. Born May 31, 1927, in Guernsey, SK. Vern was the beloved husband of Eileen (Schwindt) for 60 years. Loved father of Karen (John) Ziegler and proud papa of Blake and Abby. Survived by brothers Virgil (Della) of London and Delmar (Marguerite) of Elmira, sister Velorous (John) Shearer of Lebannon, PA, sister-in-law Betty Gingrich of Gimili, MN, and brother-in-law Tom Oshiro of Victoria, BC. Fondly remembered by the Schwindt family: Bruce Schwindt, Marion Schwindt, Susan Holst and Lorne Martin; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Osias and Naomi (Schmitt) Gingrich, brothers Newton and Gordon, and sister Vietta. Vern was an employee of KW Food Services for 33 years as a salesman. He was a member of the Elmira Curling and Golf Club and also an active member of the Elmira Lions Club, from whom he received the Melvin Jones Award for his dedicated humanitarian services. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 2-5 p.m., at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Trinity United Church, 21 Arthur St N, Elmira. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Elmira Lions Club or Trinity United Church would be appreciated by the family.
