Obituary of Vera Lavina Martin
Died peacefully at Heritage House, St. Jacobs, on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the age of 89 years.
Vera will be remembered for her kindness and grace, traits she demonstrated throughout her life and carried with her as Alzheimer’s progressed.
Predeceased by her much loved husband the late Earl S. Martin (2013). She will be deeply missed by her daughter Gloria (Duane) Eby and sons Glenn (Pauline) and Kevin. Grandmother of Sarah and Ben (Hina) Eby, Carly, Fraser (Kelitta), and Simon (Yvonne) Martin. Great-grandmother of Izaac and Bryson Martin, and Ava Eby. Twin sister of Verna Weber, sister-in-law of Marg Weber, and sister-in-law of Abner S. (Ruth) Martin.
Predeceased by her parents Orphen and Catherine (Cressman) Weber, sister Mary and brother-in-law Ray Yoder, brothers Lewis Weber and David Weber, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mildred and Abner B. Martin and Leonard and Fern Martin.
Earl and Vera enjoyed operating their dairy farm near West Montrose as partners. After the dairy herd was sold in 1978, they had time to enjoy extensive world travel and visiting with friends and family while remaining deeply active in their faith community.
A special thank you to the staff at Heritage House for their care of Vera during these last years.
The family will receive relatives and friends for memorial visitation on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. The interment will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Elmira Mennonite Church, 58 Church St. W., Elmira. After the service there will be a reception in the church hall.
In Vera’s memory, donations to MCC or Elmira Mennonite Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
