Obituary of Joan Mary Weichel
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan Weichel, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Pinehaven Nursing Home, Waterloo, at the age of 93 years. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Donald Weichel (1993). Dear mother of Barbara Brubacher, the late David Weichel (2009), and Susan Leeson and her husband Hugh. Loved grandmother of Heather Brubacher, Robyn Brett (John); Jean Power (Allan), Sarah Weichel, Laura Weichel McShane, Jon Weichel (Cheryl); Angela Stahlbaum (Mike), and Annali Leeson (Justin); and many great and great-great grandchildren. Joan will be missed by her many friends and extended family. Predeceased by her parents Dick and Hilda (Tongate) Whitington, and son-in-law Marvin (Merch) Brubacher. Joan was a well loved and respected secretary at John Mahood Public School for over thirty years. Special thank you to the wonderful staff at Pinehaven for making Joan always feel at home. The family will receive their relatives and friends on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 27 Mill St., Elmira. At Joan’s request, cremation will take place following the service. A private family interment in Elmira Union Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
