Obituary of Eunice Marion Irwin
Irwin, Eunice Marion (nee McIntee)
December 11, 1931 – February 15, 2018
Eunice Irwin of Hawkesville passed away with her children at her side on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A Celebration of Life will be held the following day, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Heidelberg Bible Fellowship, 2720 Kressler Rd., Heidelberg.
Eunice was born in St. Catharines and attended high school at St. Catharines Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, later moving to Toronto to work for Household Finance. During a visit to Camp Mini-Yo-We she met and fell in love with Paul Irwin, the man who would be her husband of over 57 years. They were married at Prudhomme's Garden Centre Hotel on September 7, 1957 and began their married life together in a small apartment in Toronto while Paul finished medical school. In 1959, Eunice and Paul moved to Cooksville where Paul practiced medicine and Eunice raised their four children, Doug (Lisa), Brian (Elaine), Janet (Mike), and James (Lily).
Eunice remained active with Paul in the service of Christ and others at Hopedale Bible Chapel, Erindale Bible Chapel, Bethany Chapel, Berea Bible Chapel, Wallenstein Bible Chapel, and Heidelberg Bible Fellowship where she made many dear friends. Eunice made a habit of caring for others and as a result, her home was a welcoming place, particularly for those who were away from family. She especially enjoyed working with children in Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, and Awana programs. Music was a special joy to her and she loved to sing. Even as her mind was fading in the latter part of her life she was welcomed to sing in the choir at Heidelberg Bible Fellowship. Eunice sang heartily and well—even though she was sometimes found holding her hymnbook upside down!
Eunice is preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Marion McIntee and her brothers Ross, Douglas, Stan, and Floyd McIntee, and is survived by her oldest brother Arnot McIntee. She will be missed by her grandchildren James and David Irwin; Matthias and Jonas Irwin; Beatrice, Maxwell, and Graeme Robertson; and Ryan Irwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Mini-Yo-We, 1878 Muskoka Rd. 10 W., Port Sydney, Ontario, P0B 1L0.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful caring staff at Barnswallow Place Care Community in Elmira where both Eunice and Paul were residents as they struggled with the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
