Mary Dickson

Obituary of Mary Leona Elizabeth Dickson

Born on the family farm in West Montrose August 8, 1924, Mary passed away peacefully at Barnswallow Place, Elmira on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the age of 93 years. Beloved wife of the late Ross Dickson (September 5, 2008). Dear Mother of David (Bonnie) of Oakville and Jeff (Cheryl) of West Montrose. Loving Grandmother to Matthew (Rachael and her daughter Stella) and Elliott (Maria). Special Mom to Nicole Dickson and Jean-Luc Stankowski. Dear sister of Betty Motz, Bernard and Robert (Sally) Brohman, and sister-in-law Helen Brohman. Predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Angeline (Schmuck) Brohman, brothers Ralph (Marie), Roy, Wilfred, Clarence, Clayton (Peggy), and Leonard, sisters Dorothy (Jack) Steffler, Helen (Don) Krieger, and grandson Bradley Dickson. Mary worked at the B.F. Goodrich textile plant and Schneiders Meats prior to becoming a stay at home Mom. Mary and Ross lived on Dieppe Avenue in the Northward of Kitchener for 52 years. Mary, with her love of children, took in babies from the Children's Aid Society and provided daycare for many friends and relatives' children. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed hosting family dinners every Sunday on Dieppe Avenue. Summers were spent at the family cottage in Wasaga Beach including watching the moon landing from a 12" black and white TV outside on the picnic table to get better reception. Mary and Ross got the travel bug spending time in Las Vegas and memorable family times in Florida with the grandkids. Following the passing of Ross, Mary enjoyed living at Waterloo Heights making new friends and learning how to use the internet. Mary had a stroke in 2009 which left her with aphasia and reduced mobility. She moved to Parkwood Suites Assisted Living and then Barnswallow Place in Elmira. Sunday dinners moved to West Montrose, and Mary's strength and determination with her health issues was an inspiration to us all. She is at peace now, and we are forever grateful for the care and kindness that the staff at Barnswallow Place have provided her over the years. Mary's family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira and on Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener at 2:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Mary's memory may be made by donations to Family & Children's Services of the Waterloo Region Foundation and arranged through the funeral home. www.dreisingerfuneralhome.com
