Passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital, one day after his 89th birthday. Doug was the beloved husband of the late Doris (Moore) Smith. Dear father of Kevin and Rose of Stayner, Gary and Beverly of Elmira, Alan and Nancy of St. Jacobs, Dale of St. Jacobs, Sidney and the late Kathy (Shantz) of Elmira. Much loved grandfather of nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Survived by sister-in-law Audrey (Bill) Gibson, brother-in-law Larry (the late Joyce) Moore. Predeceased by his parents Clarence and Marjorie (Wismer) Smith, brother Harold Smith, and sister Laureen Buchanan. A celebration of life open house will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Keleher, Sarah and the palliative care team for the wonderful care provided. Doug always loved the special attention given to him by the nursing staff. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
