Obituary of Florence Wideman
Passed away peacefully on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Barnswallow Place Care Community, at the age of 96 years. Florence was the wife of the late Aaron Wideman (1978). Mother of Elaine (Alvin) Hershberger, Beulah (Dr. Mel) Gerber, Elroy (Ruby) Wideman, Reta (Rudy) Derksen, Eva (Norm) Woodard, Clifford Wideman, Maynard (Sue) Wideman, Stewart (Diane) Wideman, and Marilyn Wideman. Grandmother of 26 grandchildren and their spouses/partners, 48 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters and brother, Viola Wallace, Dr. Ellen Moyer, Laura Shantz, and Abner (Shirley) Martin, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Annanias and Susanna (Steckle) Martin, daughter Alice (Robert) Martin, daughter-in-law Joanne Wideman, grandchildren Christopher Wideman and Rodney Martin, brothers Vernon, Nelson, Lloyd (Gladys) Martin, sister Almeda, and brothers-in-law George Wallace, Carson Moyer, Milo Shantz, and all of her Wideman in-laws. Florence was a very active member of the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church and was an avid quilter, gardener, and scrabble player. She also enjoyed the farm at Wagner’s Corners, but most important to her was her family. The family will receive their relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira, and on Thursday, August 23, 2018, from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church. Interment to follow in the St. Jacobs Mennonite Cemetery. In Florence’s memory, donations to the Mennonite Central Committee or House of Friendship would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
