Obituary of Amzie S. Metzger
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Stirling Heights LTC Home in Cambridge, at the age of 86. Amzie was the beloved husband of the late Ethel Marie Metzger for 56 years. Beloved father of Lillian and Martin Weatherall, Norma Metzger, and Bonnie Clayton. Loving grandfather of Jason Runstedler, Taylor Clayton, and Keith and Esther Weatherall. Dear brother of Noah Metzger, and brother-in-law of Doris Metzger and Kay Carleson. Predeceased by his parents, Noah H. Metzger and Irene (Snyder) Metzger; sister, Edna S. Martin; brother-in-law, Elam Martin; brother, Elmer S. Metzger; sister, Alice S. Metzger; brother, Joseph S. Metzger; and brother-in-law, Evald Carleson. Amzie was a faithful, long-time member of First Baptist Church in Waterloo. For many years after his retirement in 1995, Amzie was passionate about his scroll saw woodworking hobby. He made many beautiful clocks, ornaments, and art pieces for his family and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. at Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. followed by a reception. Interment in Elmira Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stirling Heights LTC Home Palliative Care Fund. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Stirling Heights LTC for their tender care and support in Amzie’s final days.
