Obituary of Gary Charles Victor Tomlin

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Innisfree House, on Monday, April 2, 2018, at the age of 77 years. Gary Tomlin, of Conestogo, was the beloved husband of Karen (Podhornik) Tomlin. Loved father of Steve (Luanne), Ray (Carla), Aaron (Jennifer Myers), and Alyssa (Logan) White. Loving grandfather of Justin, Cody, Makayla and Landon; Veronica and Joshua; Taeya and Isaac; and great-grandchildren Callie; Reese, and Gage, Owen and Cole. Predeceased by his parents Elmer (Al) and Alice Tomlin. Gary was an accomplished professional musician and always loved his calling. Highlights of Gary's professional career include performances with Oscar Peterson and Peter Appleyard. He was a member of many bands such as New Vibes Jazz Quintet, Tyroler Brass, Bill Gillard Jazz Band, and Fritz Patrick Trio. He taught music working for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. He developed a unique percussion program and taught privately for many years, influencing the lives of many. Gary worked with Drum Corps and Marching Bands as an instructor, adjudicator and chief judge for ODCA; however, his greatest achievement was being an amazing father and loving husband. The Tomlin family is forever grateful for all of the love and support we have received over the last four months. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to our family, friends, medical team in Hamilton, CCAC team, The Mark Preece Family House, Innisfree Hospice, and Dr. Peters and the Woolwich Health Centre. Memorial visitation for relatives and friends will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. A private family service will take place. A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 12-3 p.m. at The Jazz Room, 59 King St. N., Waterloo. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Innisfree House, Kitchener, or The Mark Preece Family House, Hamilton, would be appreciated. www.dreisingerfuneralhome.com Tomlin, Gary Charles Victor Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Innisfree House, on Monday, April 2, 2018, at the age of 77 years.
