Obituary of Irene Freeman

Passed away peacefully at Parkwood Suites to be with her Lord, on Monday, January 8, 2018, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of Cleason Freeman for over 67 years. Loving mother of Shirley (Gerald) Shoemaker of Elora, Helen (Ken) Eby of Baden, Willis (Eileen) Freeman of Drayton, Gwen (Eric) Poot of Gowanstown, and Duane (Amy) Freeman of Kitchener. Proud grandmother of Elizabeth (Karl), Steven, Brent (Amanda), Kathryn, Blair (Brett), Julia (Nathan), Angie (Corné), Trevor (Anita), Karissa (Brandon), and Evan. Great-grandmother of Wyatt, Zaida, and Emily. Survived by her sister Doris (Peter) Frey, sisters-in-law Ada Bauman, Lydia Freeman, and Alice Martin, brothers-in-law Leonard Freeman and Emerson Freeman, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Noah and Elizabeth (Martin) Bauman, stepfather Alvin Martin, sister Emma (Edwin) Weber, and brother Almon Bauman. Irene was a longtime member of Floradale Mennonite Church and the Women's Sewing Circle and was known for her piecing of quilts. She donated a quilt each year to the New Hamburg Relief Sale. Irene's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 7-9 p.m., and Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 2-4 p.m., at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 3 p.m., at Floradale Mennonite Church, 22 Florapine Road, Floradale, with a family interment in the adjoining cemetery prior to the service. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. The family wishes to thank the Staff at Parkwood Suites, Dr. Yu, and all of Irene's caregivers for the great care received in Mom's last weeks.
