Obituary of Donald Stroh

Donald Walter Stroh ~ February 12, 1930 – June 2, 2013 ~ Don passed away peacefully on June 2, 2013, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital. He was born February 12, 1930, to the late Walter and Hilda Stroh (Libutzke) of Conestogo, ON. He was predeceased by his older brothers Russell and Lester. Don was the loving husband of Louise Stroh (Andrew) whom he married July 25, 1970, dear father of Andrew, Robert and Elizabeth, and father-in-law to Cortney Stroh (Young), Rosalind Stroh (Ryan) and Chris Hutchinson. He was the loving grandfather of Chloe and Noah Stroh, and Emily and Megan Hutchinson. After graduating from Elmira District High School, he worked at Mutual Life in the agency department. Don went back to University and graduated from WLU and Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. Don served as a Lutheran pastor in communities of Tavistock (Intern), Hanover, St. John’s Newfoundland, Pembroke, Peterborough, Stratford, Elmira, Waterloo and Kitchener. Don participated in the Eastern Canada Lutheran Synod Committees, Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, Telephone Help Line (Peterborough), L’Arche (Stratford), and numerous community organizations. Friends are invited to share their memories of Don with his family during visitation at Dreisinger Funeral Home in Elmira, on Wednesday June 5th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Church in Conestogo on Thursday June 6th at 10 a.m. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, condolences for the family will be donations to St. Matthew’s Evangelical Church Conestogo, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Television Ministry, or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre.
